The gentle kicks with tiny feet in my mom’s womb .. MY VERY FIRST DANCE 🙂
From ancient times, dancing has always been an expression of emotions .. we all dance. Dancing with feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another. Yes, we all dance!! You don’t have to become a dancer .. you are already one. Just listen to the rhythm within. Get up and dance!!
Right from my childhood, I’ve always been delighted by the infinite varieties of dance styles, whether it is Dandiya or Bangra, Hip-Hop or Jazz, Zumba or Rumba, Disco or Cha Cha.
Like I mentioned in my other posts, thanks to my Indian movies for a rich exposure to Indian dance styles, of course with the cinematic touch. It awakened the yen and an unconscious search thus began.
Chidambaram, in Tamil Nadu is the abode of Lord Nataraja (Shiva), the Cosmic Dancer. Lord Shiva performs the ‘Anandha Thandava’ (the Dance of Delight) here. Evidently, this makes the state rich in plentiful dance forms. Here are some only to name a few.
Bagavatha Nadanam, Bommalattam, Bharathanatyam, Chakkai Attam, Devaraattam, Kamandi, Silambu Attam, Kolattam, Karagattam,
Kavadi Aattam, Kazhai Kothu, Kolattam, Kummi, Mayil Attam, Ottan Koothu, Oyilattam, Paampu Atam, Poikkal Kudirai Aattam, Puli Aattam,
Sevai Attam, Thappaattam, Theru Koothu and Urummi Attam.
Barathanatyam, is one such ancient dance derived from the Natya Shashtra written by Bharatha Muni. More on this in my upcoming posts ..
Overall, Dance by itself is absolute. Dance by itself is profuse and overflowing!! It has so much to give and just one thing to take .. yes, it can take away a little of your excess weight 😉 Dancing is the best exercise I have experienced.
Is that all? No .. one more .. Dancing is also a meditation!!
How? Try it out 🙂
